Almost exactly one year ago Spotify announced plans to move into the crowded music streaming scene in India. Well, Spotify followed through on this promised and launched last Wednesday.

After only 6 days in the country, they reached 1 million users.

India is dominated by two streaming services, Gaana and JioSaavn, not to mention the usual mammoths, Google, Apple, Amazon.

India is a little more tricky than the US/UK markets due to copyright laws and negotiations with record labels, but the market is huge.

Spotify failed to mention whether these million users were on trials or paid accounts but no matter how you spin it, they’ve made a wave in what promises to be one of their largest future opportunities.
