Franchise of the decade

Sports Business Journal has named the NBA’s Golden State Warriors “Franchise of the Decade.”

Backstory, according to Axios:

When Kleiner Perkins partner Joe Lacob and a group of investors dropped a shocking $450 million to buy the Warriors in 2010, it was the most anyone had spent for an NBA team. But following a hugely successful decade in which the team won three titles and changed the game of basketball, it’s looking like one of the savviest Silicon Valley investments in recent history.

The Warriors...

  • Led the league in revenue for each of the last three years.

  • Increased revenue by over 1,000% this decade.

  • Opened the Chase Center in September 2019, which the team says is the only privately financed sports venue built on private property in the modern sports era.

Now, according to Forbes, the Warriors are worth $3.5 billion.
